RISKS

HAEMATOMA: Regardless of where in the world you have surgery, haematoma is a risk involved in having surgery.

What are haematomas? Bleeding inside the skin which might require the surgeon to reopen the incision to stop the bleeding. this will also have an obvious time effect on how quickly you heal as there would be extra swelling and bruising.

How can haematomas be avoided after surgery? Using a surgical drain to remove pus, blood or other body fluids.

DRAINS: After major surgery (Abdominoplasty,Mammoplasty) a surgical drain is inserted to remove pus, blood or other fluids from a wound. Drains inserted after surgery do not necessary result in a wound healing more quickly but are sometimes required to drain body fluid which may accumulate and become a site for infection.

DVT - Deep Vein Thrombosis: BFN reduce the risk of DVT by insisting their clients wait an ample amount of time post surgically before flying home.

What is DVT? Deep vein thrombosis is a condition resulting from the formation of a blood clot thrombus inside a deep vein - commonly located in the calf or thigh. DVT occurs when the blood clot either partially or completely block the flow of blood in the vein.

What are the risk factors?
Immobility or bed confinement, we at BFN get you the client within a day of your surgery gently walking around your private room with assistance.
Smoking. We will advise you to refrain from smoking for a least 1 week after surgery.

Your return journey. We will give you a sheet of exercises that you can inconspicously do on your flight home and advise you to walk up and down the aisle of the plane every 30 minutes.

MRSA. This is undoubtedly a major problem in the UK but by having surgery with BFN in Northern Cyprus your risks are significantly reduced.

What is MRSA? Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aeireus, an organism that is resistant to commonly used antibiotics. The organism staphylococcus aeireus is found on many individuals skins and causes no major problems, however if it gets inside the body for instance under the skin or in to the lungs serious problems such as boils or pneumonia can occur.

How can we prevent it? As we have said the organism is found on many individuals so BFN uses preventative action to reduce the risks of MRSA.
• Protective footware for all visitors to our hospitals
• Frequent washing of hands by all visitors before and after touching the patient
• A thorough daily clean of the patients room ( dust can be contaminated by the organism )
• A simple action, but keeping each patients doors closed.
